Last Friday, Rashiid OFFICIALLY left his job to pursue photography and videography full time! This has been a long time coming, so we wanted to make sure we celebrated the right way!! Now, I know some people would have celebrated by popping bottles in the club... BUTTT...that costs money and if you know anything about entrepreneurship - one MAJOR thing you need to learn is how to stretch your dollars!! lol! So, we decided to turn up (for free) in nature with priceless views.
I googled "Hiking near Philly" and came across this article that listed 12 Philly area hikes with scenic endings. We chose Mount Tammany because the photos at the top looked BREATHTAKING!! And, it was only a hour and 45 min drive, which goes to show that you really don't have to leave the state (or country) to experience some beautiful sites. So much in our backyards that we can explore!
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
The hike is about 3 miles total (It can take about 2.5 - 3 hours). I'd recommend hiking up the Red Dot trail and hiking down the Blue Dot trail. The Red dot trail can be challenging for some people, but if you're in fairly good shape - you should be ok! I hiked up Red Dot trail carrying my 20 pound daughter and I was fine overall. Only stopped a few times to catch my breath and drink water.
Go early-ish. By the time we got to the top, the sun was setting (around 6pm in October). So, we were in PITCH BLACK DARKNESS for half of the hike back! Felt like we were in the Blair Witch Project! The only light we had was on our phones. But, thank God we took the Blue Dot trail back because it was a much easier hike down in the dark.
Leave time to meditate at the top. This echoes the above to go early-ish. Because of sunset, we were a little rushed at the top of the mountain. Next time, I'd go earlier to relax at the top and take everything in. Maybe bring a lunch and just chill for an hour, read, or write.
Check out our VLOG recap below created by Rashiid Marcell! (All photos by Rashiid too!)
As always, Hendrix was such a little trooper! From the car seat to the baby carrier, she is always down for our random adventures!! LOVE this girl.
I wonder if she knew that she was surrounded by so much beauty?! Or, if she knew that she was on the top of a mountain, lol.
Anywho.. Go hike this mountain, y'all! Especially if you live in Philly, Jersey, or New York! Only a short drive away!!
